Lovin' this s**t.

I have been having trouble recently with a popup when I start windowblinds.

It states...

Windowblinds is unable to start.
The most likely reason for this is your PC has a .CMD file running at startup which has locked WBs activation file.
Run msconfig & remove this from startup and then reboot.  WindowBlinds should then work fine.

OK... I tried that.  I tried to find a .CMD file and could not find a ".CMD" file anywhere.

Please help.

Trying to run Windowblinds 6.02, on a Windows PC with Vista sp1.

I'm getting the same problem narbytrout. I'm running it on XP SP2 and I have no idea what the problem is. If you have already found out what the problem is can you please tell me.

Thanks

P.S. Bichur, how are you being helpful??

P.S. Bichur, how are you being helpful??

He's doing what's called a "bump" which brings the post back to the top of the list. At the top of the list the post has a better chance of being seen and replied too. Hopefully, a person with a fix or answer will see it this time......if not then a helpful person may have to bump it again.

I apologise. Just pretty peed off with this program at the moment.

Most likely what may be happening is there could be a security app running in the background that is preventing WB from loading, happens with a lot of things like SpyBot, AdAware, and the like. I even had a issue where Live1Care was the culprit.
Usually, these security apps have a way to add the exe's files to it's exclusion listing, meaning the security app will not monitor it, and usually WB will start and run.

How do I get rid of these SpyBot's or AdAware?
on Apr 16, 2008
you probably don't want to get rid of them, they really are helpful though sometimes irritating.
try what highlander suggested and see if the program has a place in it for excluding certain programs from being "scanned'. it should solve your problem. Also, check firewall/antivirus,some firewalls protect from registry changes. could have problem there, that again is easy to fix with an exclusion list or a "safe" list

What do you mean by security apps? I know I have AVG 7.5 but i would have never guessed it was blocking WB from working. Can you give any examples of security apps?
on Apr 16, 2008
antivirus
firewall
security suite combining both of the above with extras
anti-spyware programs such as adaware, spy eraser, spybot etc,
registry protectors such as uniblue registry booster (theres lots but thats the first one I can think of)
programs installed by your computer manufacturer that came bundled on your computer (many of the above)

Thanks,
I guess I better get busy trying to work out which programs are doing this.
on Apr 16, 2008
check the obvious first.
antivirus or firewall or combination security suite.
on Apr 16, 2008
example: I have kaspersky suite, and it does have a habit of reacting to object desktop programs as virus or malware, that's because the products do change things in your computers system. I knew this in advance and so made sure that in those fields mentioned earlier (exclusions) I added the .exe files for the programs I knew ahead of time were trusted.

OK, I tried finding any problems with AVG 7.5, couldn't find anything so decided I uninstall it for the time being. I also added WB and the WB activation.exe to the windows firewall exception list. I don't have any other anti virus or firewalls (apart from my router which is connected to another pc). I restarted my PC and still got the same message. Do you have any other suggestions?

p.s. thanks for the help here

on Apr 16, 2008
I'm installing it as an administrator.
Should I try installing WB in safe mode?
