Lovin' this s**t.

For Lazy Susan, (Feb. 2001 - July 2009)

The one absolutely unselfish friend
that man can have in this selfish world,
the one that never deserts him,
the one that never proves ungrateful
or treacherous . . . . . is his dog.

A man's dog stands by him
in prosperity and poverty,
in health and sickness.

He will sleep on the cold ground
where the wintry winds blow
and the snow drives fiercely,
if only he may be near his master's side.

He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer;
he will lick the wounds and sores that come
in encounter with the roughness of the world.

He guards the sleep of his pauper master
as if he were a prince.

When all other friends desert he remains.

When riches take wings
and reputation falls to pieces
he is as constant in his love
as the sun in its journey
through the heavens.

~George Graham Vest

My dog passed away this morning, my best and most loyal friend.  You will be missed by all whose life you touched.

RIP, Sue

My condolences.....I've had to bury quite a few over the years and it's never easy to lose a family member.

Rest In Peace, Susan.

RIP, Sue.  I have no idea how you even came up with the energy/strength to post the poem.  (I'm literally weeping as I post this).  My deepest, heart-felt sympathies, narby.

Narby...very sorry to hear it. I'm sure Sue had a great life with you though, and lived a much better than so many animals on this planet.

Happy Dog Heaven, Sue....Rest In Peace.

Really sorry about your loss, I have three dogs and have lost some in the past, so I know how bad you feel.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I appreciate all of the condolences of the community, I know that most of us have lost a furry family member in the past.

The eulogy was written by George Graham Vest.  He was a lawyer and politician who served as a Missouri congressman, a Confederate Congressman during the Civil War, and finally a U.S. Senator.  He is best known for his closing arguments from the trial of a dog named Old Drum in 1870.  The speech was delivered in the Johnson County Circuit Court in Warrensburg, Missouri.

This is too creepy. We had to put my girlfriend's Goldie down today. His name was Trevor, he was a good ol' boy who was 13 in human years. I have to really focus on being here for my g/f for she really misses him and is currently in the greaving stage of our loss. I hope all dogs do go to heaven...wax

so sorry to hear this narby and wax...I still remember clearly, the day we lost our first Shepherd...when I was 9 and have lost 7 since...dogs and 2 cats & a much loved cockatiel.  It seems they never really leave you.....each one leaves pawprints on our hearts....and stamps us with their unique love and friendship.  I have been thinking about this alot lately, as my last pet here with me is 17....it truly is a crushing day to cope with.....but it seems Sue had a great and fulfilling life....as will your next best mate....

I'm so sorry for your loss.  I don't want to imagine the day that my pal passes.  Twelve years and he's the only one who hasn't been mad at me at some point or other.
